科学技術が私たちの生活に及ぼしている影響は計り知れません。しかし、その複雑な歴史について私たちはどのくらい理解しているでしょうか。さまざまな歴史的文脈の中で、人間は自然界についてどのように考え、どのような関係性をもってきたか。それは時の流れとともにどのように変化してきたか。その結果、自然界や私たち自身にどのような影響を及ぼしてきたか。このような科学の歴史を見ることで、これからの社会を構築していくためのヒントが得られるはずです。
私の研究対象は主に20世紀の日本の生物学です。これまで、１９２０年代から１９６０年代にかけての遺伝学（とその周辺）の歴史を分析してきました。特に、育種と遺伝学の関連や、冷戦期米国の科学外交の影響（ルイセンコ論争、原子力、“緑の革命”など）をみてきました。このほか、たばこ産業と科学知・無知生産との関係についても研究しました。現在は、栽培植物研究の歴史や三浦半島を題材にしたテーマにも関心があります。
科学史を専門に学びたい方（生物学系周辺テーマ）、生命系分野で博士論文を書きながら「科学と社会」副論文で科学の歴史的社会的側面について広く考察したい方、一緒にいろんなことを掘り起こしましょう。
